44th Chess Olympiad schedule, venue, opening ceremony and more details here


This year, India is hosting the 44th Chess Olympiad in the Chess Capital of India, Chennai, Tamil Nadu. The Olympiad will start on August 29 and end on August 10 and it was organized by the government of Tamil Nadu.

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the event on July 28 and brilliant chess players from 187 countries will participate in this competition. The event was originally scheduled in Moscow, Russia, but as war broke out between Russia and Ukraine, it was canceled and eventually it is held in India.

The 44th Chess Olympiad will be played at Four Points by Sheraton Mahabalipuram Resort and Convention Center, Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

Opening Ceremony of the 44th Chess Olympiad 2022

Prime Minister Narendra Modi inaugurated the opening ceremony of the tournament on July 28 at 6:00 p.m. IST on Thursday and the 2022 Chess Olympiad matches will start at 3:00 p.m. IST on Friday, July 29, 2022.
