If you love high school sports, Lafayette and the Cajundome, there are now two major events to look forward to.

The LHSAA announced Thursday that it has reached a three-year agreement with the Cajundome to host the LHSAA State Volleyball Tournament.

“We are thrilled to announce that the LHSAA State Volleyball Tournament will be moving to the Cajundome in Lafayette,” LHSAA Executive Director Eddie Bonine said in a press release. “Cajundome and Lafayette Travel staff have been extremely supportive in planning with the LHSAA to provide a first-class experience for our student-athletes and benefit our participating schools.

“We look forward to our partnership to deliver a fantastic volleyball experience over the next three years.”

The Cajundome hosted the state volleyball tournament last fall when damage from Hurricane Ida prevented Kenner’s Pontchartrain Center from hosting the event.

The tournament dates are November 9-12 in 2022, November 8-11 in 2023 and November 13-16 in 2024.

“We felt that once the organizers saw what the event might look like in the Cajundome, we would have a good chance of getting it back, and that’s exactly what happened,” Ben said. Berthelot, president and CEO of Lafayette. Congresses and Visitors Commission.

“It was an amazing venue for the volleyball championships, and we’re looking forward to hosting a great event for at least the next three years.”

The Cajundome will also host the three-day men’s basketball tournament with semifinals scheduled for March 2 and 3 and the final five on March 5.

The Divisions II, IV and V semifinals will take place on March 2, said Catholic High athletic director Ben DiPalma, one of the coordinators for some championship events.
