FOUR THOUSAND square meters (m²) of rental space and a location in a booming MICE (meetings, incentives, conferences and exhibitions) capital are the selling points of the new SMX Convention Center in Clark, Pampanga.
The SMX Convention Center Clark, which was originally slated to open two years ago, finally opened on May 24.
“We had a lot of requests to have a conference room or exhibit facility in the northern NCR (National Capital Region),” said Walid Wafik, senior vice president of operations for SM Hotels and Conventions Corp. . (SMHCC). conference before the inauguration ceremony and the tour. “That’s when the idea for SMX Clark came on board, and we were fully supported by SM and management to enable us to have an SMX branch.”
The SMX Convention Center in Clark is the second freestanding convention center aftuh SMX Manila.
There are also SMX facilities in Olongapo, Bacolod, Manila, SM Aura and Davao.
A smaller one in Cebu called the Skyhall also exists. SMHCC executive vice president Peggy E. Angeles said a full-fledged SMX convention center will be in place in Cebu in four years.
The latest SMX convention center is located in the SM City Clark complex, near the mall and the Park Inn Radisson Clark. It has three commercial halls, three reception rooms and 14 meeting rooms.
“The super formula we came up with, which is by the mall, our main locator; and then we complete the mall with a hotel, with a convention center. It’s to increase foot trafficIfc and more business for the whole resort,” Mr. WaFik said.
Ann Olalo, general manager of Park Inn by Radisson, said Clark’s location is very convenient for exhibits and conferences.
“We’re getting feedback from our key accounts that Clark seems to be the most convenient and accessible destination if they want to host conferences and events outside of Manila,” she said.
Dennis Legaspi, vice president of engineering services at Clark Development Corp. (CDC), said Clark will soon be launched as a MICE destination in the Philippines.
Meanwhile, the two-plus-year waning pandemic has made SMX Convention Center executives more attentive to health and safety precautions.
Miguel Morato, senior branch manager of the SMX Convention Center Clark branch, said each facility now undergoes misting, wiping and washing before and after each event. Antivirus and antibacterial handrails and IfLights are installed in the elevators.
“These are the new standards that we will continue,” Mr. Wa said.Ifk. — Joseph L. Garcia
