LA Convention Center celebrates 50 years | New

The Los Angeles Convention Center is celebrating its 50th anniversary throughout 2021, recalling the events on its website.

Owned by the city of Los Angeles and managed by ASM Global, the convention center recently hosted an in-person celebration that brought together past and current employees, according to Ellen Schwartz, chief executive.

Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti addressed about 200 attendees, who also included city and state representatives, event planners, convention center partners, and the downtown hotel community. -City of LA.

“The mayor was there which was fantastic,” said Schwartz.

During the celebration, the Los Angeles Convention Center Hall of Fame was officially unveiled. Three events were named as the first LACC Hall of Fame inductees in 2021: Anime Expo, the Los Angeles Auto Show and Ski Dazzle.

“We are delighted that the 50th anniversary celebration is a platform to launch the CCAA Hall of Fame,” said Schwartz. “Here, we can formally recognize the events that have contributed to the success of this center. Each July, additional events will be named to the CCAA Hall of Fame, and collectively, these events will illustrate the vibrant history of this great facility.

Schwartz said the event was the culmination of an otherwise difficult year and a half.

“Unfortunately, most of the business we had over the summer must have fallen,” she said. “The information about the reopening came too late for them in the planning cycle.”

However, a handful of events are planned, such as the Tattoo and Body Art Expo August 20-22, National Day of Service and Remembrance on September 11 on September 11, California Bridal and Wedding Expo on September 12. , and the new Cine Gear Expo from September 24 to 25.

Schwartz has been working at the convention center since October 2013. She became president of sales and marketing and became general manager.

“Each of them is unique and different and stands out in different ways,” she said when asked about memorable events.

“The auto show is an iconic event in Los Angeles. It is surely exciting. We host sexy events like the Grammy After-Party, MusiCares Event, Ski Dazzle, LA Comic Con. Then we have also organized trade shows for many years. We have such an interesting mix of events going on with the convention center. We never get bored.”

The varied events, she added, seem fresh, because “no two days are ever the same – from the very corporate type to events like the Anime Expo. The Anime Expo is followed by the scientific meeting of the Alzheimer’s Association.

The 50th anniversary celebration coincided with the opening of the LA Art Show, “America’s most comprehensive international contemporary art fair,” she said.

Kassandra Voyagis, Producer and Director of the LA Art Show, said, “I am very happy to bring the LA Art Show to the Los Angeles Convention Center in the wake of a difficult year.

“Today more than ever, we need a physical art fair to unite the creative community. Thanks to this incredible space, we can safely welcome our artists, exhibitors and patrons for a celebration of art and culture. We are delighted to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the LACC in conjunction with our return.
