The Queen Sirikit National Convention Center (QSNCC) has been chosen by the government to host the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (Apec) summit this year, Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha said on Thursday.
General Prayut said the Royal Thai Navy Convention Hall was chosen as the venue to host a banquet for the leaders attending the meeting.
QSNCC in Bangkok’s Khlong Toei district and Impact Muang Thong Thani in Nonthaburi province had been contenders for the top venue, while ICONSIAM shopping complex and Royal Thai Navy Convention Hall had competed to be the site of the banquet.
The newly refurbished QSNCC would reflect the change in Thailand and the Navy Convention Hall would offer world leaders the opportunity to view the glorious Grand Palace.
Although the Prime Minister made the announcement on Thursday, the convention center has already released a statement on its website on February 10 confirming the selection.
The summit will take place from October 30 to November 3, 2022.
Thailand hosted the Apec summit in 1992 when Anand Panyarachun was prime minister and in 2003 under the Thaksin Shinawatra administration.
