DULUTH – Are you looking for an opportunity to present your new original song? The Duluth Entertainment Convention Center and BoPro Productions might have the opportunity for you.

DECC will host North of Nashville, a showcase of songwriters, in the Harbor Side Ballroom on February 5. The showcase will feature professional songwriters singing their best-known songs while sharing more about the background of each issue. The free performance will include performances of:

  • Buffy Lawson, formerly of the country duo Bombshel, known for duoing with Neil Diamond on The Tonight Show and recording songs with Bo Bice, Willie Nelson, Kris Kristofferson, Randy Travis, Kenny Rogers and Dolly Parton.
  • Heidi Pack, singer of the Duluth Whiskey Trail Band.
  • Shane Nelson, the winner of the 2018 Northland Idol contest and holder of an American Idol silver ticket.
  • Bo Allen will host the event. The singer / songwriter has a lot of time in Nashville under his belt, having collaborated with Dolly Parton, Ned Beatty, Brooke Hogan and others.

Next, the finalists of the North Nashville Songwriting Competition will perform. The grand prize winner of the competition will receive a professionally produced music video of the artist and song, a one-year membership in the Midwest Country Music Organization, and a performance seat in front of the large crowd at Duluth’s Fourth Fest on July 4, 2022, at the Bayfront Festival Park.

“I believe that part of the role of DECC is to present artists and not just national artists. We must also use this large facility to nurture and develop local talent, ”said Dan Hartman, executive director of DECC in a press release.

To enter the contest, entrants must include a sample of an original song of up to 1.5 minutes in MP3 or MP4 format by emailing [email protected] or using the hashtag #nonDECC. The song can be anywhere in the major genres of country and folk music.

Finalists must be able to perform at the February 5 concert to be eligible to win the prize. Submissions must be sent Friday January 21 at midnight. Only one entry is allowed per participant and the winners will be notified by email or social media. All participants must be 13 years of age or older.
