Inspector General of Police (IGP) Benazir Ahmed said: “Security has been tightened around the Prime Minister’s public gathering place at the Banglabazar Ferry ghat in Madaripur, which is to be held on June 25 on the occasion of the inauguration of the Padma Bridge. Two watchtowers with the latest technology have been installed at the public gathering place and are being used for the first time in Bangladesh. Two watchtowers were recently imported from America.
IGP said this during a visit to the public gathering place at Banglabazar Ferry Terminal in Madaripur on Friday, June 24.
Benazir Ahmed said, “The Padma Bridge has created excitement nationally and internationally. Bangladesh’s economy has prospered and progressed. A festive atmosphere was created across the country on the occasion of the inauguration of the bridge. We expect at least 10 lakh people to congregate here tomorrow.
“Security measures are reassessed here and are being assessed every moment. We have coordination with the intelligence department. Hopefully, with the support of the people of the country, we can celebrate this historic moment tomorrow in a festive mood,” he said.
Benazir Ahmed said: “The security committee of the Ministry of Bridges is working here. We came to see the latest security situation. We gave suggestions on how the public meeting place would be, what the parking would be. If the instructions and restrictions are followed, it will be easy for everyone to access the site. In addition, signs and displays have been installed in the streets. Those who have never been here will be able to enter the room very easily.
The IGP said there was no threat to police around the Padma Bridge inauguration and Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina’s rally. If there is a threat, we will mitigate it. We have constant intelligence coordination. Apart from this, separate security arrangements have been made in each venue around this historic public meeting place. Here, district police, naval police, traffic police, traffic police work separately. We will stay here until the end of the rally.
“Thousands of people will gather at the rally. We recently noticed that coronavirus infections are on the rise across the country. For this reason, we strongly urge everyone who comes to the public meeting to respect the sanitary instructions,” he said.
