The biggest chess event in the world, the 44th International Chess Olympiad, is just days away as the event is due to take place from July 28 to August 10. The tournament will take place in the village of Poonjeri in Mamallapuram, a UNESCO heritage site, located about 50 kilometers from Chennai, Tamil Nadu.

The event will see the highest attendance as a record number of 187 countries are participating with 188 teams in the Open section and 162 in the women’s section. A record total of 30 Indian players across six teams (three open and three women) will take part in the Olympiad.

The 44th Chess Olympiad will be held at the Four Points by Sheraton Mahabalipuram Resort and Convention Center. The resort is located on East Coast Road, Chennai.

All matches of the 44th International Chess Olympiad will be played in the classic Swiss League format.

What is the schedule for the 44th International Chess Olympiad?

The tournament will begin with ‘Round 1’ on July 29 and continue until ‘Round 11’ on August 9. There will be a rest day on August 4 and the teams will leave on August 10. All games will start at 3:00 PM IST.

Players from the top three teams also receive team medals:

1st place: Gold medal

2nd place: Silver medal
